Editorial: Center Lane News Endorses Rene Gonzalez for Portland City Commissioner!

Replacing Jo Ann Hardesty is a major step all Portlanders can take in the upcoming Oregon General Election on November 8th, 2022 to restore security to our neighborhoods besieged by violence, drug related thefts & shooting, and Illegal camping. In June of 2020 at Hardesty’s insistence, the Portland City Commissioners took the reckless step of cutting millions from the police budget, effectively dismantling 30% of the Portland Police Department that immediately led to mass resignations of many experienced police officers—monthly resignations that continue to this day. Those budget cuts created a “Perfect Storm” of unprecedented lawlessness in the City of Portland, making Portland city streets violent & unsafe for our families. Replacing Hardesty with Rene Gonzales will insure that Police funding is restored, so that the process of restoring the Portland Police Department can begin immediately on her departure. It will also signal to the City of Portland to never play reckless politics again with the safety & security of Portland residents!

City of Portland Commissioner Jo Ann Hardesty bears full responsibility for the huge increase in gun violence & lawlessness in Portland communities, especially in her own district. She led the reckless & irresponsible fight in 2020 to defund the Portland Police budget of millions of dollars, greatly reducing Police effectiveness that led Portland to an unprecedented level of lawlessness & violence in our neighborhoods. She’s seeking reelection on November 8th. A vote for her is a vote for continued increase in gun violence, lawlessness, & mayhem in the City of Portland.

In a huge waste of taxpayer & donation $$$, Oregon political leaders have managed to create an out-of-control “Homeless Lifestyle” and a separate industry to support it! Everyone from politicians, to drug rehab clinics, to managers of charities for the homeless are profiting from Portland & Multnomah County’s failure to differentiate between aid for the “truly needy,” and those able bodied individuals that can work but choose to drop out & embrace the “homeless lifestyle dream” instead. It turns out that only a small portion of the “so called” homeless are truly deserving of aid.

They use it as a political tool against political rivals and our own President, when there’s no factual basis to support such claims. Oregon Leaders Fiddled …. While Our Cities Burned!

The Democratic Party is increasingly seen as the party of lawlessness & socialism. In refusing to enforce the law, Liberal Democrat Mayors have allowed their cities to descend into chaos & anarchy. They simply will not protect businesses or our neighborhoods! Instead, they criticize their own law enforcement agencies and defund them. Liberal Democrats need to be reminded that local law enforcement agencies are needed to keep the peace when demonstrations turn violent. Failure to do so results in businesses being destroyed & bystanders being injured or killed. Officials that fail to protect their cities, blame the police, and then demand law enforcement be defunded or disbanded, are playing politics with our safety. Such leaders should resign, be recalled, or be shown the door in the very next election.

Portland’s Mayor Ted Wheeler & City Council’s Amanda Fritz, Dan Ryan, Jo Ann Hardesty, & Chloe Eudaly voted to defund the Portland Police Department by $15 Million, at a time we need increased police resources & protection. Defunding police is supported by Oregon Gov. Kate Brown, Senators Ron Wyden & Jeff Merkley, and other far-left Democrats. Because of their actions, Portlanders now fear for their  own safety, forcing many to move out of the city. There is no sanctuary for citizens in Sanctuary Cities. It’s time for all Oregon voters to show this group the door for their failure of leadership!
